Dear Friends and Customers,

Well, you may have already heard but the lovely site of the collective is going to be re-developed later this year. So we have accepted the upcoming change and are packing it up! But not before one last goodbye and an exciting sale which will help us personally say thanks to all of you. Don't worry, SPUN will still be available online as well as select retailers. All of the other artists and designers that have been featured here at the collective are also still doing what they do....it's just the store that is closing up.

Please join us for the SPUN Sample Sale on August 11th. This is also our last day open so we're just going to call it a Closing/Sample Sale! Doors will open at 11am and we'll be here until 7pm. Please come by and see us and more importantly, save up to 90% off on old stock, one-offs, samples and a bunch of other goodies in the store.

Meet the Collective: Metamorphic Gear

I hear it from customers all the time... "why can't stuff be eco and cute at the same time? why is it one or the other?". As a designer of my own eco fashion line, SPUN, I try to make garments that offer the best of both worlds. I firmly believe that you don't need to make a choice when deciding to bring more green into your life.

This is why I was so excited to meet Lindsay Lawrence, the man behind the new Seattle brand, Metamorphic Gear. Lindsay's vision is to morph the two worlds of style and eco into his products.

"Lindsay is a world traveler, sailor and lover of the outdoors. Inspired by the outdoor equipment that he used while hiking, Lindsay wanted to design a range of stylish but reliable eco-friendly products for the outdoor enthusiast to use in their urban lifestyle. We proudly carry Metamorphic Gear's "Slate" Messenger Bags in both the solid colors (green, blue and red $130) as well the Limited Edition colors $150. Each bag is made using upcycled sails and used truck tarp materials.

Shop Local on Black Friday

Sure, we all love a good deal but do you ever think about where your dollars are going? Here in Seattle, we have lots of debates going on about lack of funding for education, needed road repairs and infastructure, lack of jobs, etc. We're so quick to point the finger to our politicians not doing enough to help out the little guy. But guess what? Maybe instead of "occupying" and interrupting small business, we could do something about it!
Every time you pull out your wallet, you are making a decision and actually voting. You use your money to vote for what you think is important. The things that you buy or the food that you pay for, are all a part of your daily voting decisions. It all comes down to the law of supply and demand. If you value local and want to keep jobs which in turn help bring funds to the economy, then prove it!

This Black Friday (and Saturday), vote to support local. Use your money to support our local economy by supporting local designers and artists here at SPUN Sustainable Collective and all over the city (and beyond). Be "the 99%" that makes the decision to stand up and help ourselves instead of waiting for someone else to do it. If you don't want to support the 1% or "the man", then show it! Shop at local stores, eat at local restaurants and buy from local artisans. See how quickly the money will come back into our own local economy and we can help ourselves. We can save our energy and instead of protesting and complaining, we can get back to work!

Hair, Makeup & Mimosas

Weekends are meant for pampering! Bring your girlfriends and join SPUN, Twig and Robert Leonard Salon & Day Spa on Saturday March 26th for some fun girl time!     Enjoy a complimentary makeup splash and get Spring tips from the lovely Cara, founder of Twig Cosmetics. Meet The Collective: Out of Line

One of my most favorite Seattle designers joined the collective last month and I'm excited to tell you more about her. Meet Out of Line designer Beki Wilson!


Hi. I'm Beki.

 I learned about Beki last year and felt a weird non-stalker connection with her. Like me, she's a mother of a gorgeous daughter. Her daughter is a teenager but my girls (thank god) are still learning how to spell. Beki started sewing when she was young and started a baby clothing company with a friend. Same here. My baby clothing company lasted about 3 months but it still counts. Beki started her line and years later went on to fashion school to get more technical knowledge in garment construction. I hope to do the same when I have more time.

Out of Line infuses classic shapes, clean design, and modern detail.  It is designed with the creative woman in mind, for girls on their own path, girls that like to dress up… and down.

"Key Influence Dress"

Beki officially started in 2000, in Eugene Oregon.  It began as an experiment in jersey.  Simple cuts, lots of stripes, block printing and color blocking.  After seven years of self teaching, bootstrap pulling, and some success, Beki moved to Seattle to attend The New York Fashion Academy.  After study and completion of a certificate in garment construction, the line has evolved to consist of casual separates and party dresses.  Each piece is designed with great attention to fit, wearability, and individual expression in mind.

Pike and Pine Holiday Shopping Weekend

The best part about opening my store has been all the support that we receive from everyone in the neighborhood. Not only have the local residents been wonderful but we also love all the surrounding businesses! One such business is Babeland which is located right on Pike Street on Capitol Hill. More than just a shop, they also hold workshops and help educate the public about safe sex.

Aside from their hard job as a one-stop sex shop, they are sponsoring a fabulous holiday shopping event this weekend!

Come by SPUN Sustainable Collective this Saturday December 11th (because we're closed on Sunday) to receive $25 in credit for each $100 you spend! Our First Book Signing!

I'm not only excited for this event but have been litterally counting down the days until we're able to annouce it!

Come join us on Wednesday December 8th from 5:30pm-7:30pm at SPUN Sustainable Collective for a delicious evening with darling food writer Lorna Yee. Lorna will be sharing her experiences while writing (and developing, making and tasting recipes) "The Newlywed Kitchen".

Yeah, and she's pretty too!

Copies of the book will be available for sale and Lorna will be signing them just for you! The book is a collection of mouthwatering recipes mixed with love stories worth remembering. Grab one for yourself or as a holiday gift. It's not only good for newlyweds but for anyone who enjoys cooking!
