New Holiday Hours & Gift Registry

The holidays seriously snuck up on us this year! These are the times when we wish that the weekend was 3 days long so we have more time to get our "to do" list completed!

To help you get more out of your weekends, we will now be open SUNDAYS all December long! Come in and see what we have in store and maybe pick up a gift card or two for those hard to shop for people on your list. Our designers have been hard at work and there's a lot of new merchandise coming in every week. Lots of stocking stuffers too!

We're open Tuesday-Saturday 11am-7pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm and look forward to seeing you soon!

We also offer "wish list services" which lets you register for what you really want! We'll enter everything in our system and all you have to do is tell your friends and family to come in. They'll have your list here and can pick out what they like off your list!

Shop Local on Black Friday

Sure, we all love a good deal but do you ever think about where your dollars are going? Here in Seattle, we have lots of debates going on about lack of funding for education, needed road repairs and infastructure, lack of jobs, etc. We're so quick to point the finger to our politicians not doing enough to help out the little guy. But guess what? Maybe instead of "occupying" and interrupting small business, we could do something about it!
Every time you pull out your wallet, you are making a decision and actually voting. You use your money to vote for what you think is important. The things that you buy or the food that you pay for, are all a part of your daily voting decisions. It all comes down to the law of supply and demand. If you value local and want to keep jobs which in turn help bring funds to the economy, then prove it!

This Black Friday (and Saturday), vote to support local. Use your money to support our local economy by supporting local designers and artists here at SPUN Sustainable Collective and all over the city (and beyond). Be "the 99%" that makes the decision to stand up and help ourselves instead of waiting for someone else to do it. If you don't want to support the 1% or "the man", then show it! Shop at local stores, eat at local restaurants and buy from local artisans. See how quickly the money will come back into our own local economy and we can help ourselves. We can save our energy and instead of protesting and complaining, we can get back to work!

Support the Hill Featuring SPUN Sustainable Collective
On Friday 11/25 and Saturday 11/26, SAVE an extra 20% off everything in the store (including sale items)! You can also give a gift of local to your friends and family this holiday season by purchasing a SPUN Sustainable Collective gift card available in any amount. To show you how much we appreciate you choosing to shop local, we'll give you a $20 gift card with any gift card purchase of $100 or more. Use it as a stocking stuffer or keep it for yourself.

Choose local, shop local, support local! Occupy local shops, occupy local restaurants, occupy local business!

We did it!

It was a little over a year ago when I had the idea of creating a space that would not only house the SPUN studio but also a place that could showcase indie brands. My dream was to help put the spotlight on some of the hardworking and talented artists and designers in Seattle. I imagined a store full of beautifully made clothing, jewelry and other goods where each piece had a story behind how it was made and who it was made by.

That dream became a reality and SPUN Sustainable Collective officially launched on November 5th, 2010. With the support of our friends, family, neighbors and everyone in the community, we quickly became the one-stop shop for locally made goods. Although we are still growing and have learned A LOT over the last year, I'm proud to say that the space is exactly as I imagined it so long ago!

So today, November 5th, 2011, we want to recognize all of our customers, family, friends and all of those who helped get us to this point. It's because of your support, shoutouts and referrals that we have been able to do what we love. I am so incredibly grateful for your kindness and encouragement and appreciate each and every one of you for your own unique ways of helping SPUN Sustainable Collective become what it is today.

To show you how much we love you back, enjoy 20% off everything in the store for today! Yes, even our amazing sale rack with the already low discount prices!

See you soon,
Sara

Marilyn loves SPUN too!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Sale!

Here in Seattle, the weather has really cooled down in the last week. The sun is playing peek-a-boo but the temperature has definately made us pull out our fall gear. I've said hello to my coat which I've missed in the last 3 months! Oh Seattle, why are your Summer's so short?

Speaking of short...although it's cold, the birds are still chirping and one of them told me that our own Alki Apparel is working on a new collection! We are excited to hear the news and to help make some room, all Alki Apparel lounge shorts are on sale!

Seattle's Own: ALKI APPAREL

We know how much you love supporting local designers so now until 10/31/11, our entire stock of Alki Apparel lounge shorts are only $10 (Originally $48). Come in and pick up a pair for all the men (or women) in your life. Remember, the holidays are just around the corner and these babies make perfect stocking stuffers!

Meet the Collective: MiiR

It's pretty obvious that here at SPUN Sustainable Collective, we are all about supporting the little guy. So much so that we practically pull out our wallets everytime we see the word "local" even before we know what we're buying! Even better are products with a global initiative that make us feel good about our purchase. I mean, we all love our TOM's don't we?

Needless to say, we are pretty stoked when we met the guys at MiiR bottles. Yes, they are adorable but looks aside, they are not messing around when it comes to helping fight the good fight! When you purchase a MiiR water bottle, you help provide one person with clean water for an entire year through their one4one initiative. You can even visit their website and see where your money is going!

The MiiR water bottle is different because it's made from high quality stainless steel which means that there is no liner and no harmful chemicals like BPA. It also means that your water won't absorb any yucky flavors either! Not only does it fit standard cup holders but it also has a wide mouthed opening so you could slip in ice cubes and it unscews with one rotation. MiiR water bottles are available in 3 sizes: 400ml ($20), 600ml ($23) and 800ml ($25). Each bottle comes with your choice of a wedge or wingnut style top in your choice of color. Additional tops are just $5!

When you buy a MiiR bottle at SPUN Sustainable Collective, you also receive a special pincode and instructions on how to upload your own image and create a personalized vinyl skin which will ship free in about a week. The skin (or sticker) fits perfectly on the MiiR water bottle and is easy to apply. You can even peel it off and trade it out!

Meet the Collective: Alki Apparel

Another week, another new designer at the collective....that's how we roll!

So what's better than shopping local and from independant designers? Being able to find something for the man in your life while shopping for yourself! #winning

This is Scott from "Alki Apparel" and
he enjoys paddleboarding in his lounge shorts

Sometimes you just need to get in your comfy clothes and let the body take a breather. Like any man, Scott just wanted a pair of airy cotton shorts to wear in the heat of Summer. All he found were cut off sweatpants or workout shorts. So he decided that if no one else was making him what he wanted, he would get it done himself!

Park Louge Shorts - Willow Green $48
Fancy Backside

Pioneer Lounge Shorts - Alaska Blue $48
Pioneer Lounge Shorts - Sand $48
Don't waste any more time ladies and gentleman! These shorts are only available in limited quantities so if you miss out, don't say we didn't warn you! Be a winner and come buy a pair!

Holiday Craft Project

It's a holiday weekend and aside from working at the store today, I just might have a little time on my hands. What better way to spend it than to make something sweet and crafty?

Here at SPUN Sustainable Collective, we carry lots of decorative garlands made by the multi-talented Andrea of Nico Papergoods

Meet The Collective: Elle B. Designs

The newest artist to join the collective is Laura Greenamyer. She's a lovely lady who lives around the corner from the store and has been coming by since we opened. She was always telling me about her jewelry line until one day we decided that it just makes sense to have her pieces in the store.

Stones Bracelet $89
What I like about Laura is her use of Silver. She mainly uses Precious Metal Clay (PMC) which is the recycled material left over from photographic and x-ray film processing. The fine powdered pure silver particles recovered from the photo developing process are mixes into a binder, forming a clay-like material. Once a piece is made from the clay and air dried, is is fired in a kiln over 1500F degrees. The binder holding the metal particles burns off and the particles fuse together. When the object cools it is solid metal, 99.9% silver (Fine Silver).
Leaf Earrings $52
Laura also uses sterling silver as well as gold filled silver in her pieces. She takes her inspiration from nature, growing up in Hawaii, moving to Arizona and finally settling down in Seattle. The tropical plants and the ocean of Hawaii mixed with the cacti and desert of Arizona and the pine trees and rain of the Pacific Northwest are all apparent in her designs.

Floral Square Earrings $32

Alpha Dog Chain $45

Square Stone Earrings $48

Wood Print Necklace $32

Laura makes all the items by hand, in Seattle, with high quality materials, attention to detail, and a lot of love! Come by and take a look at her full collection at SPUN Sustainable Collective.

Mother's Day For Picky Moms

If you're like me, then you dread Mother's Day coming around every year. Unlike my mom's birthday, Mother's Day feels like my chance to show my mom what a great mom she is and how much I love her. I seem to mess it up every year since she kindly asks me for a gift receipt a few minutes after opening up what I thought was "the perfect gift".

This year, I hope to live up to her expectations and not hear her say the dreaded gift receipt question. I'm lucky to have a shop full of beautiful clothes, jewelry and gifts to pick from so I intend to make this Mother's Day special.

Here are some of my picks for your mom (all available at SPUN Sustainable Collective):
